Design

The Breville Milk Cafe Frother has a straightforward appearance, but like the rest of Breville’s product line, I thought it was still elegant. The body of this milk frother is made of brushed stainless steel, and the accents are gray.

There are two main parts: the milk jug and the power base. The removable milk jug rests inside the power base. The push dial and LED indicator for the milk temperature are located on the front of the base.

With only one dial on the base, the design was rather simple, which I found to be more user-friendly.

One of the frothing discs can be stored in a spot that is attached to the power base’s back. Due to the discs’ small size and ease of loss, I really liked this feature.

On the other hand, this magnetic attachment kept the disc securely and safely in place. The milk jug can be used to hold the other disc.

Setup Process

The Breville Milk Cafe Frother is very simple to set up. All I had to do was wash all the removable parts in warm soapy water before the first use. This included the dishwasher-safe milk jug, measuring cap, latte, and cappuccino frothing discs, and jug lids.

The milk jug was placed on the power base and the proper frothing disc was put inside after all the components had been thoroughly cleaned. It must fit properly with a click. I then filled the jug with cold milk, secured the milk jug lid, and adjusted the temperature using the power dial.

I pressed the start button after adjusting the temperature, and the milk frother finished the job. When it’s finished, the milk frother will beep to let you know.

Typically, the frothing process only took two to three minutes to complete, though the precise time really depends on the quantity of milk.

Practicality

The design is practical, which seems to be a feature of many Breville products. You get the impression that the design team thoroughly tests each component, and everything was well thought out.

The most useful illustration of their practicality is the measuring cap lid. While milk is being frothed, you can measure and add ingredients through a hole in the cap, but splashes are kept to a minimum thanks to the enclosed edges.

This is especially helpful when making rich hot chocolate with the milk frother because it’s nice to let the milk warm up first before incorporating the hot chocolate powder mixture.

In addition, the lid has a ring-shaped handle that makes it simple to open even though the seal is remarkably tight.

The location of the extra frothing disc storage is yet another superb design feature. Both a cappuccino disc and a latte disc are included with the Milk Cafe milk frother.

Any disc that is not in use can be magnetically attached to a storage area on the power base. This is a wise addition to the machine because those tiny discs are simple to lose.

Features

The Breville Milk Cafe milk frother has the most features compared to other models that I’ve seen.

The fact that you can precisely control the desired temperature of your milk foam makes it stand out as one of the few. This is done by turning the knob on the front.

It is marked from 120 °F to 160 °F, but you can set it outside of that range, from about 100 °F to 180 °F, keeping in mind that dairy milk will scald at 180 °F and introduce the wrong flavor to your coffee drink.

  • The cold stir setting doesn’t heat the milk at all. To make cold milk foam, it merely rotates the frothing disc.
  • The warm range falls below about 130 ℉. When preparing non-coffee beverages or warming milk for kids, this range is helpful.
  • The optimal range falls between about 130 ℉ and 150 ℉. The point at which the milk has the ideal harmony of sweetness and creamy froth texture is the ideal temperature for steamed dairy milk. In a specialty coffee shop, you can anticipate the milk to be about 140 °F if you order a latte.
  • The hot range starts above about 150 ℉. For those who prefer their lattes or cappuccinos a little warmer than usual, this setting is ideal. It can also be used to make hot cocoa. Just be careful not to get too hot and end up with scalded milk.

Ease Of Cleaning

The milk jug, the lid, and the frothing discs can all be cleaned in the dishwasher (top rack only), as was already mentioned. To ensure that the discs last as long as possible, it is best to hand wash them.

I discovered that I much preferred doing all of the washing by hand because I didn’t want the discs to get lost in the dishwasher. Furthermore, there were only a few parts to clean off, making it quick and easy to wash them.

The fact that I didn’t have to spend extra time scrubbing dried milk off the milk jug or the discs was a benefit of the cleaning procedure. Any dried milk came off with ease.

Price

When you consider that the typical electric milk frother costs around $25, the Breville Milk Cafe Frother’s suggested retail price of $129 is on the higher end for a milk frother.

The Breville Milk Cafe Frother offers a number of extras that most electric frothers don’t, including textured foam options and temperature control.

Temperature Control

Comparable milk frothers do not have adjustable temperature control. When frothing and heating milk, many brands only provide one or two settings rather than many.

There are several temperature options available at the Breville Milk Cafe, ranging from 120°F to 160°F. Breville recommends a temperature of approximately 140°F as the ideal.

Making hot chocolate allows you to increase the heat. In order to melt the chocolate powder, the steamed milk will be sufficiently hot.

Pour cold milk into the jug and set the dial to “Cold Stir” for cold drinks; the milk will froth without being heated. For an iced latte or iced latte macchiato, cold-frothed milk works best. You can get milk at the precise temperature and consistency you want.

By turning the device off after a predetermined amount of inactivity, the automatic shut-off also helps you stay safe.
